This oil painting was commissioned for a theatre stage production during the second half of the 19th-century in Avignon, South of France. Stage paintings were exaggerated in color and form in order to be well seen by the audience.
This painting is in good antique condition with signs of aging mainly seen in a few minor scratches, edge wear and flaking of the paint. There is evidence of some repairs on the back of the canvas. Was originally purchased from an art dealer many years ago.
